Sláinte: (slahn-chə) the basic form in Irish Gaelic. Variations of this toast include sláinte mhaith “good health” in Irish (mhaith being the lenited form of maith “good”).

Once the Santa Ynez Valley hillsides turned a gorgeous green, Los Olivos photographer Rebecca “Becca” Rivera & I had a vision to create “Sláinte” – A Celtic inspired styled wedding at Knapp’s Castle. Knapp’s Castle was once a beautiful Santa Barbara estate turned ruin overlooking the Santa Ynez Valley.  Becca & I then carefully selected a power house of talented local boss ladies to make it all come together.

Becca captured so many amazing shots that it took weeks for me to finally narrow it down to these selects & share with all involved.

Amanda Cortez of Terra Bella Event Florals created an insanely beautiful sweetheart table centerpiece & stunning bouquet using rich colors to fit our theme. The Bridal bouquet adorned lace & trims used in my dream catchers. She also provided extra blooms to dress the cake & place settings.

Talented artist, Chelsea Ward of Sketchy Notions created gorgeous one-of-a-kind pieces for our styled wedding. She hand painted a custom guestbook using watercolors & included one of my favorite love quotes: “Love is old, love is new, love is all, love is you”. She put a unique spin on the traditional sweetheart table signage by painting Bride & Groom floral silhouettes on mirrored glass.  I asked her to create gift tags for Jameson Whiskey wedding favors: “Truth Serum, Love Potion, Pain Killer Courage Builder – Sláinte!” Because no Irish wedding is complete without a little whiskey! Last but not least, she brought my event mirrors to life with custom chalk art calligraphy with the Bride & Groom’s name/event date & my favorite Beatles songs, “And I love her” – “Bright are the stars that shine. Dark is the sky. I know this love of mine. Will never die. And I love her…”. (I have yet to wash it off since the shoot!)

B.Living’s Karen Nielsen & Nikki Thopson played off on the Celtic theme & collaborated with me to set the sweetheart & dessert tables with their vintage rentals & items from the ever inspiring shop in Solvang. The table top items provided a dramatic elegance with colored amber & emerald glass decanters & goblets, fine China, & silver flatware.

A simply elegant naked Wedding cake was made by Cassandra with Sass Catering & dressed with B.Living’s twig wreath & silver cake stand & vintage dessert plates.

Our lovely bride Sara’s hair & makeup was gorgeously done by stylist Julie Christy in Buellton. I completed the glamorous look with timeless Bridal accessories including a mink stole & heirloom pearl jewelry from my personal collection. The wedding dress was the Cecilia lace gown by the bohemian Dreamers & Lovers.

From the initial mood boards/creative brainstorming to fruition, I’m so grateful for all of these incredible women involved & making all of this beauty come to life.

While there was no shortage of talent, the biggest challenge with this Winter styled wedding was the weather. With all of the green hills comes lots of rain, we all crossed our fingers during one the rainiest winters that we wouldn’t have to postpone this shoot more than once. In the end, we couldn’t have asked for more perfect day that ended in in a dream like fog.

Sláinte / Cheers xo
